Job Summary: this internship position will provide a wide variety of recreation and facility management experience. It will be asked to work a variety of hours including days, nights and weekends. Duties include opening, closing and general operations of the North Liberty Community Center. Experience gained in Recreation Administration, Programming for All Ages, Employee and Facility Management, Aquatics and Special Events. Programs you may take part in running but are not limited to are Midnight Sports, Blastball and Summer Picnic Series.
Summary of Essential Job Functions: responsibilites include direct facility supervision, patron discipline, computer/registration operations, programming and ability to work with a diverse and growing population.
Minimum Requirements: an internshipt requirement through an accredited university with a general working knowledge of computers and computer programs such as Word, Excel and Publisher.
Abilities Required: position requires individual to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to interact with youth in activities but are not limited to baseball, basketball, or dodge ball.

Summer Recreation Intern

The Ida Grove Community Recreation Center is seeking applicants for a paid summer intership. The internship will run from themiddle of May through the middle of August. The intern will assist in overseeing various summer recreation programs such as youth softball, youth baseball, junior high softball, junior high baseball, youth and adult tennis, junior golf, 3 on 3 basketball league, etc. Outdoor swimming pool and recreation center duties will also be assigned.
The Ida Grove Community Recreation Center is located one hour east of Sioux City, Iowa with a population of 2,300 persons. The recreation center, a department under the city of Ida Grove, opened its doors in December 2003. The building consists of many amenities including an aerobic room, weight room, kid's play room, community room with fully equiped kitchen, card room, two racquetball courts, full size gymnasium with a walking track, golf room complete with a putting green, driving range, and a golf/hunting simulator, and an indoor swimming pool with a hot tub, wading pool and sauna.
Interns will gain an overall experience in the areas of program development and implementation, facility management, and facility, pool and grounds maintenance. The selected candidate will have his/her own office at the recreation center with a computer and telephone. Other benefits include a free recreation center membership, free swimming pool pass and a monthly salary. Candidates for the position must have completed course work in leisure studies or related area at an accredited college or university.
